Bishoy Faltas
On July 1, 2016, Bishoy Faltas, MD, joined the Genitourinary Oncology Program in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine. As a laboratory-based physician-scientist, Dr. Faltas will focus on studying mechanisms of mutagenesis and drug resistance in bladder carcinoma, as well as immunogenomic studies in patients treated with immunotherapy. Dr. Faltas will also have a clinical practice focusing on bladder cancer and other urologic malignancies.
Dr. Faltas completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine, as well as a 1-year research fellowship in the laboratory of Mark A. Rubin, MD, and the Institute for Precision Medicine. He is now leading studies of the clonal evolution and the neoantigenic structure of platinum-resistant urothelial carcinoma.
Dr. Faltas has received several research awards, including the Scott-Wadler Fellow Research award and the Weill Cornell Department of Medicine 2015 Fellow Award in Research. He has also received the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Advancing Translational Sceinces CTSC KL2 Scholar grant, as well as the ASCO Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award.
“My philosophy is simple: The patient comes first. My research is focused on improving our understanding of the biology of bladder cancer, but I never lose sight of the reason I am doing this research: my patients,” said Dr. Faltas.
